One of the most important aspects of training is… knowing when to stop. ✋ Read and understand your dog and their engagement to the task at hand. If they’re showing no enthusiasm or interest, and you keep forcing them to do something, they’ve hit a wall and aren’t going to train progressively. It’s at this moment you should stop training and resume at a time where their drive and interest is high, and they will actively engage with you. 🐶

Here’s a quick tip that can help you in cases of an emergency when you need to control your dog safely! 🐺 Temporarily tie a muzzle on your dog using your lead, and prevent any accidents your dog may cause due to nervousness, fear, anxiety or for many other reasons. Watch the video for the full demonstration or follow the steps below ⬇️
1. Make sure the lead is correctly fastened and positioned at the top of your dogs neck.
2. Pull the lead forwards, through the centre of your dogs eyes
3. Firmly hold your dogs muzzle together and tightly tie the lead around the top of their muzzle. Make sure it isn’t too tight that it hurts, but not too loose they can wriggle out of it!
4. Bring the loose lead back towards the top of their muzzle and head, and hold it there firmly until you’re ready to release.

Without Blake, XL-K9 wouldn’t be here and neither would litters A and B. Blake has taught our trainers a lot, and is our head trainer Raj’s right-hand man. We took our latest board and train dogs Rex and Zeus for one of their environmental assessments before we hand them back over to their owners. Taking them to a large crowd and testing their responses, reactions and nerve in new environments is a great way for us to see how far we have come through our training, if their behaviours have been modified and if there is more work to be done 🤔 As we expected, we were so so happy with this result 👌🏽 They both stayed calm and obedient to their command and we are so happy to say - the passed our XL test and are officially XL-lent dogs 😍🙏🏽 If you want to take your pooch out to the beer gardens this summer without worrying about them causing a havoc, get in touch with us now👆🏽
